Brad Eisenberg, Founder, BE Lean

About

Hi! My name is Brad Eisenberg, and I’m the founder of BE Lean. BE Lean blends a systems thinking perspective with a lean development approach to help businesses operate effectively and leave their mark on the world.

Many consider efficiency, optimization, and measurement to be best practices. To me, they’re my mission because they have the power to turn ideas into a sustainable reality.

I believe that business can be a vehicle for positive change in the world

Early in my career, this belief was my singular focus. I became passionate about sustainability and the environment, and I wanted to make an impact. With three friends at the University of Maryland, I created the first stationless bike sharing company in North America. As it turned out, we were 10 years too early. But I had gotten a taste of entrepreneurship over the five years we ran weBike, and there was no turning back.

During that time, I became an early employee in another environmental startup called greeNEWit. greeNEWit began as a home energy auditing business at a time when the energy efficiency industry in Maryland was just starting to get its legs. Over nine years, greeNEWit grew from the back room of a house at the end of a cul-de-sac to a multi-million dollar leader of Maryland’s residential and commercial energy economy.

I was honored to eventually lead greeNEWit as its COO, and my proudest moment was watching our team accept the US Environmental Protection Agency’s award for ENERGY STAR®  Contractor of the Year.

Just a year after receiving that award, greeNEWit went out of business following a series of unexpected budget cuts and program freezes in the subsidized markets we operated within. It was devastating not only to our team, but to our entire industry.

As difficult as that experience was, my belief never wavered that business can be one of the most powerful drivers of positive change in the world. But I was overwhelmed by how many businesses ultimately fail to reach their potential.

Businesses should live or die on the merits of their ideas, not their executional shortcomings

My purpose shifted. The ideals of responsible business and entrepreneurship were stronger to me than any specific industry or cause. I recognized that people don’t start businesses because they want to run a business. They do so because they’re passionate about what they do and they want to leave their mark on the world. They want the freedom to create a life that is fulfilling and meaningful.

These were the same reasons why I got into entrepreneurship in the first place. Business gave me the agency to carve my own path and create the life that I wanted.

I feel called to help others do the same.

That’s why I started BE Lean

You’ll find in me an unwavering commitment to your success, an insatiable sense of curiosity, and an uncommonly balanced skill set across operations, technology, finance, and customer experience. I’ll push you to consider possibilities you never have. I’ll question the assumptions you’ve made of the way your business operates. And I’ll take every care and consideration to create solutions that work for all of the components of your business - your people, your processes, your purpose, and your profit.

So if the systems you’re using are causing more frustration than value…

If want to take your business to a new level of maturity but don’t know where to start…

If you crave the freedom to spend less time working in your business and more time working on it…

You’re ready to BE Lean.
